Meet the founder
Meet Katie DesMarais.
Katie studied Interior Design at the University of Kentucky, then spent more than a decade designing in New York and Austin — across residential, hospitality, higher education, and luxury development projects, always with an emphasis on thoughtful, detail-driven work.
That decade shaped her sensibility: timeless but current, refined but approachable.
She came home to Lexington to open Marais Home — bringing a professional eye to a love for comfortable, collected living. Today she works as a Lexington interior designer, leading design direction for the shop and for every client project while raising two young kids.

Curation over volume
We carry the brands we'd specify on a project — Rowe and Four Hands anchor the furniture floor, alongside Hudson Valley and Arteriors in lighting, Pom Pom at Home across textiles, Hawkins NY and Kinto on the kitchen and dining shelves, Maison Louis Marie in our scent and self bar, and a long list of small-batch makers across the decor floor. If we wouldn't put it in a client's home, it isn't on the floor.

In person, in Lexington
Every design project starts with a 90-minute in-home consultation. We walk the rooms with you, take measurements, and leave with a clear direction — even if you don't take a next step with us.

Hourly first, scoped when it matters
Most rooms move forward on an hourly basis — no big retainer, no padded markups. Renovations and whole-home programs get a written, flat-fee scope so you know what it costs before we start.

The showroom
882 East High Street.
Our showroom sits in Chevy Chase, in a tall-windowed space that gets honest afternoon light. Inside: full vignettes you can sit on, a fabric library you can pull from, luxury furniture in Lexington, KY from makers most local stores don’t carry, lighting hung at real ceiling heights, and the small things — vases, ceramics, candles, books — staged the way we’d put them in a finished room.
Walk-ins are welcome during open hours. If you want time with Katie or the team, book ahead and we'll set the room aside.
